CatchUp - Kelly Hamilton

This month’s CatchUp is with MomUp superstar, Kelly Hamilton, now the Director of Accounting, at DCU!

Tell us a bit about you!

I am married to my wonderful husband of 11 years, Matt.  We currently live in Billerica, MA with our two dogs, Bucky and Oliver.  We are also in the process of building a new house in Bolton, MA.  Probably most exciting of all, we are expecting a baby boy in October 2022!

How has MomUp helped you?

MomUp helped me take the next step in my career path as the Director of Accounting at a large financial institution.  I really wanted to make sure that I transitioned over to a workplace where the culture and values aligned with my own.  MomUp understood that desire and coached me on how to achieve that along the way.

What career highlight are you most proud of?

I am most proud of is receiving the Leadership Award at one of my previous employers.  I particularly valued that award because I am always trying to improve my leadership skills.  I really enjoy being able to have a positive impact on others, and the leadership award helped to validate that I was doing just that.

First job you ever had?

Selling tickets and concession items at a movie theater.  Also came with a perk of free movies🙂😂

What are you best job search tips?

When searching for a new job, I always make sure I use more than one website or tool to search (Linkedin, Indeed, etc.).  I also try to cast a fairly wide net for the actual position I search for.  It took a while for me to realize that I don't need to meet every experience or education requirement in the job description exactly.  I try to make sure that I am finding the right fit for me in an employer and focus less on the technical aspects of the job itself.

Advice on balancing work and personal life?

Turn off email notifications on your phone while on vacation.  My husband had to yell at me about this for a while before I actually did it.  Once I did, I was able to truly unplug from work for a few days, and nothing blew up.

What do you enjoy doing in your downtime?

Reading, taking walks with the dogs, spending time at the beach, checking out new breweries, and watching bad reality television.
