CatchUp - Meaghan Wiggin

This month’s CatchUp is with MomUp superstar, Meaghan Wiggin, now a Civil Engineer at Howard Stein Hudson!

Tell us a bit about you!

I grew up on Cape Cod, MA and naturally enjoy spending my time by the ocean. I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from the University of New Hampshire and now live in New Hampshire. I'm passionate for sustainability, and will intertwine this into my career. I also enjoy spending  time in the White Mountains skiing and hiking.

How has MomUp helped you

MomUp empowered and helped me find my first full time position within the civil engineering field. They were constantly supportive, communicative, and helpful during every step of the recruitment process.

What career highlight are you most proud of?

I was an intern for the Sustainability Institute at the University of New Hampshire during my undergraduate years. I helped develop methodology and spread awareness around the embodied carbon on campus. This is important because construction materials is fairly new to the industry and take up a large amount of the Earth’s overall GHG footprint. This is why finding sustainable material alternative solutions is critical.

What was your first job?

Lifeguard and Sailing Instructor for the Kennedy Sailing Program in the Town of Barnstable.

What are your best job search tips?

Stick to searching for position descriptions and job titles that you know that you are passionate about and will enjoy. It’s beneficial reaching out to someone with more knowledge than you within the field or recruitment process with any questions you may have.

What do you enjoy doing in our downtime?

In addition to spending time outdoors, I love traveling in my free time. In fact, I lived in a camper van for four months and travelled 16,000 miles around the USA and visited 30 National Parks. I  also studied in Scotland for four months.

Any advice on balancing work and personal life?

Prioritize your happiness and remember to take time for yourself.
